Leeds Vineyard

Projects

On Saturday afternoon we get to go out and ‘Do the Stuff’. There are projects in Headingley, Hyde Park and Leeds City Centre. They range from the practical such as car washing and gardening (coded green) to the people-focussed giveaways (coded amber) to the more adventurous – Healing on the Streets, Miracle Question, Red Sofa (coded red) and everything in between.
Please note if the project you'd like to be involved with requires you bringing anything with you and come prepared to sign up for a project as soon as you can after registration as some of them have a limited capacity.
If your project isn't in Headingley or involves going on the buses then you may want to make sure that you have some change with you for the bus!

Headingley

Treasure Hunting
Pray together beforehand with fellow treasure hunters, asking God for clues (eg: a location, physical description, words, names, random bits of information) to find your treasure (ie: a person who God wants to speak to/heal/demonstrate his love to). Write these clues on your ‘treasure map’ and share them with the group prior to going into Headingley in pairs or trios (possibly with people in your group who have similar clues) looking for people who have these clues. When you spot a clue, approach the person and explain that you are on a treasure hunt and they have one of your clues, so they might be your treasure. Share an encouraging word, prayer, Jesus, or whatever is appropriate with them. You may want to write down the words you had for them on a card and/or give them a God Loves You card.

Miracle Question
In pairs or trios, approach local people asking them the question, “If you could ask God for a miracle right now, what would it be?” Where appropriate, offer to pray with them or have a discussion about Jesus.

Healing on the Streets
We will set up a temporary healing station in Headingley with chairs, kneeling pads, and a flag to get people’s attention. Ask passers-by, especially those who have a visible sign (eg: crutches, wheelchair, etc) if they need healing for anything and whether they would like some free prayer to be healed. Pray in pairs or trios for the individual to be healed, as prompted by Holy Spirit. You may want to give them a letter which explains more about God and healing and contact details for more information.

Chocolate Giveaway on the Bus
In trios, board any bus and give chocolates to everyone on the bus, telling them that God loves them. You may also have conversations with people on the bus about God or pray for them if there is an opportunity.

Random Acts of Kindness
Ask Holy Spirit to help you to go and bless someone with a random act of kindness somewhere in Headingley (eg. Buying the person behind you in a café a drink)

Blessing the Students
There are posters going up in the student flats across the road from the church offering for teams to come in for 15 minute sessions doing washing up free of charge. There’s the chance to hand them a God Loves you card and to talk to them more about God if they’re interested.

Blessing Shopkeepers
Go to each of the local shops and cafes in Headingley and give the men chocolate bars and the women flowers to show them that God loves them. You may want to give them a God Loves You card.

Prayer litter picking
While we’re out and about prayer litter picking, we will be looking to engage with people we meet – starting conversations and offering prayer.

Shire Oak Primary School
Bring your own tools if you’re Leeds-based (eg: secateurs, rakes, gloves, etc), old clothes and shoes to do gardening in a local school’s garden. This is a real priority for us as we’re building an ongoing relationship with the school. Equipment needed ideally.

Car Washing
Bring your own old clothes, we’ll provide sponges, buckets, and rubber gloves to offer people a free car wash. You may want to give them a God Loves You card to explain why you are happily washing their car. Equipment needed ideally.

Hyde Park

Healing on the Streets
We will set up a temporary healing station in Hyde Park with chairs, kneeling pads, and a flag to get people’s attention.

Mother’s Day Giveaway
Give chocolates, flowers, and God Loves You cards to women and tell them that they are appreciated and valued.

Skate Park Giveaway
Hand out free bottles of water or soft drinks to people around the skate park. Speak with them about Jesus when prompted. You may want to give them a God Loves You card, if appropriate.

Red Sofa
We will have set up a sofa, chairs, and coffee table under a gazebo; have tea and cake available to serve. Some of the team will invite passers-by if they’d like to ask any questions about God, if so, they can join in the conversation on the sofa. Others in the team will be on the edges around the gazebo, chatting to passers-by and asking them if they’d also like to join in.

On the Streets
Assemble lunches and hot drinks together in the kitchen and pray. Go into the streets to give away food and drinks to homeless people and Big Issue sellers. Pray for them if they would like you to.
