A Small Group Smorgasbord
Small groups start again this week. We have an amazing bunch of leaders offering a small group smorgasbord! I am told that some people have managed to fit three or more groups into their schedule! If you are a settled part of the Vineyard then I encourage you to at least join one of the Growth groups. If you are finding your way you may prefer an Activity group and if you have never been on Discovering Vineyard then that might be the one for you.
Being a disciple is a team sport and can be tough when pursued on your own. But to grow as a follower of Jesus nothing beats being part of a small group. A place where you can’t really choose the other members and where, as you know and are known, as you pray and talk, as you worship and learn, the Holy Spirit does a wonderful thing and brings healing and wholeness in your life.
And when life gets hard, when you hit one of those inevitable bumps in the road, being in a small group means that you have people around you to support you, pray for you and do life with you. So I commend them to you.
DTI (Dreaming the Impossible) is the national Vineyard youth festival for 11 to 18s and takes place this weekend with the theme “Fearless”. DtI has a remarkably history of impacting our young people for God. At the last count some 40 are going from Leeds so we need to pray for Ian and Liz and their team! We pray for safe travel, staying healthy, getting just enough sleep, having a lot of fun, meeting powerfully with the living God and learning to live fearlessly.
Pie Chart Sunday
I’m especially looking forward to Pie Chart Sunday this year (it’s on Sunday May 15, when we also have Picnic in the Church) because I am reliably informed that there will be lots of pies. You are invited to add to the pie theme in any way your imagination suitably allows! In addition we also have some important announcements to make at weekly worship so please make an extra effort to be there.
We have two dates for baptisms in the next few months: 22 May and 24 July. If you would like to be baptised please talk with your small group leader as soon as possible. Baptism isn’t a requirement for being part of the Vineyard but it is an essential part of making a decision to follow Jesus.
More baby news
We have been blessed by yet more babies arriving safely in recent weeks, it has been averaging one a week recently! John and Eli Dorman were born to Jen and Andy on 19 April. They’ll be in neonatal for a few weeks but are doing great. And Evelyn (Evie) Dean arrived a day later to Andy and Anna. We are all delighted for you. Welcome boys and girl and congratulations to your parents and brothers and sister! If you’d like to make a meal for one of the families please contact Sally Lingham or Lucy Holt.
Last week Alison and I, along with Anne Buchan, were invited to teach some leaders who gather together for training under the auspices of Matt Hatch and Mosaic church. We were introduced as, “the Vineyard has a reputation for teaching people how to listen to God and be obedient to what He says” – which was a bit of challenge to rise to! But we had a great time and found them to be a group of gifted, committed leaders who were hungry to learn more and willing to take risks. We are so grateful for what we learn in the Vineyard.
Leadership Group Retreat
Alison and I are taking the leadership group away for a 24-hour retreat at Ampleforth Abbey on 13/14 May. Please pray that we are indeed able to hear from the Lord and understand better the Kingdom mission to which He has called us in Leeds and Headingley. Please pray too for the child care arrangements that need to be set up to release the team overnight!
