Psalms we wrote

At Weekly Worship on 8th October, Maggie explained some of the literary structures that are used in Psalms:

• Enclosure: starting and finishing with the same thought
• Parallelism: saying the same thing twice, but in different words the second time
• Acrostic: the initial letters of each line are the letters of the alphabet in order, or make a word

We then created our own Psalms using some of these ideas.  Thanks to everyone who was willing for us to publish their creations.  If you wrote one that isn't here, you can add it using the Comments facility at the bottom of the page.
 

Oh Lord. How long? How long do we wait For you to fulfil what you say Will come to pass? Is it your year? The day of wrath and favour When you will proclaim freedom to the captives And comfort for those who mourn Is there hope beyond hope? When will you show yourself in all of your power To confront injustice and awaken your people In a outbreak of passion for your name Richard

God, the Almighty one Answers too our prayers And provides for us! God catches us when we fall He’s always there when we need him. Closer than a brother he helps us And makes us happy! He gives us strength and spirit. He is the one we adore! Rachel

 

God you are faithful You are the same for ever and ever. You meet me in my need You never let me down. When the storm breathes over my head Still you hold my hand. Though the deep waters and the breaking waves. You hold me firm. I can trust you though the storm. I will not sink as still you hold me. The wind can throw its worst. Friends can let you down. But God is faithful. God fulfils his promises. I will stand on the promise of the Lord. He is the rock of my salvation. He is the one who holds my head above the waves. God is like a farmer he provides me with everything. He looks after me every day at school. He recharges my batteries. He is my satellite navigation to doing things in his way. Even though I may die at any time. But I will not worry. For you are with me! You have sign posts show me the right way to go. In bad times you look after me and show the right options. You provide more than I need. I know that you shall look after me always. I will be with you forever Henry

Glimpses of God – a Psalm of everyday life Lord, be seen in my life Let me catch more than glimpses as I hurry along the corridors of my day I scurry along head down Carrying awkward parcels of worry and concern I glance into doorways But it seems I miss you Let me catch more than glimpses I step slowly Dragging a suitcase of sadness Looking behind curtains I see only shadows Let me catch more than glimpses Lord guide me into your sitting room Make room in my life for me to Rest with you by the fire Let me catch more than glimpses as I stop to feast my eyes on you. Oh God you are my God I call out to you in the morning I hear my voice whispering your name in the early hours. My heart is heavy, my mind is confused I feel alone, I am lost on my path, Surely you will come to me, Have you not promised to be with me to the end of the age?
