Visiting on Sunday?
Welcome! We call our Sunday gathering, "weekly worship" because we worship together and we do it weekly!
If you are thinking of visiting us one Sunday then we hope that this information will help you to know what to expect. We understand that visiting any new place can be a daunting experience. In order to make it easier for you, here are some answers to frequently asked questions about what happens. We hope that you enjoy coming along and find somewhere you can call home.
Where do you meet?
We meet at Headingley Methodist Church on Sundays, starting at 11.00am. You will probably spot our sail flags and gazebo in the church gardens. For some directions on how to find us, details about public transport and where to park click here.
What happens when I arrive?
You will be met at the church gates by one of our Welcome team. They are around to answer any questions that you might have - just look for the people wearing a lanyard badge. You will be offered a free hot drink as you arrive in the garden and enter the church.
The service starts with an introduction followed by 20-30 minutes of contemporary worship. Then there is a talk based around both the bible and our experience of following Jesus that is practical and relevant to everyday life. After the talk there is an opportunity for prayer for anyone that would like it. On the 4th Sunday of each month we share communion together.
Is there anything for my children?
On most Sundays there are separate activities for children aged 0-11. The children head out to Vineyard Kids after the first 15 minutes which is all together. The young people aged 11-14 (T4:12) head out after the worship. From time to time - on some Sundays everyone stays together for the whole service.
Why is weekly worship so important to you?
Small groups are really important to build relationships and grow as a disciple of Jesus, but the weekly gathered community is also an essential part of discipleship. It is an opportunity to celebrate what Jesus is doing amongst us and in our daily lives; it is a sign to our community of the high vaue we place on the worship of God; and it provides an exciting space for the Holy Spirit to come among us in power to teach, minister and heal.
Will I be asked to give any money?
No. In fact we don't even pass around an offering basket. We want visitors to feel free to just visit. For more about why we give and how to give take a look here.
What should I wear?
There is no dress code - please come in whatever you feel comfortable wearing.
There is level access available to the church building - please ask a member of the Welcome team at the front gate and they'll be happy to assist you. There is a disabled toilet just off the main meeting room (Sanctuary) and space for wheelchairs at the front right-hand side. The words to the worship songs are projected onto a screen at the front, and there are also large-print paper copies available from the Welcome team. If you have any queries ahead of visiting us please get in touch.
We hope that this helps to explain about what to expect. Please do come along, we would love to meet you.
